Welcome to Brit Lit I !

Course Overview

British Literature I is a semester-long elective English course designed to provide students with an overview of the British literary tradition from the Anglo-Saxon period to the beginning of the Modern era, roughly AD 800-1800.

Students will become familiar with the linguistic, cultural, and political history of Great Britain through the focused study of the literary trends and major authors of each era. In addition, this course is designed to enhance and supplement the research skills and independent critical and analytical literacy skills that students work to develop throughout their English studies at SGCHS.

Class Requirements

Students will be expected to:

-Read assigned materials
-Maintain a notebook or binder
-Complete two midterm tests and one final test
-Prepare and deliver two oral presentations
-Complete two formal essays
-Complete daily homework assignments
-Engage in class activities and discussions
-Follow class procedures and school code of conduct

Grading

Grades for the course will be based on the following criteria:

Test I 5%
Test II 10%
Oral Presentation I 10%
Oral Presentation II 15%
Essay I 10%
Essay II 15%
Final Test 15%
Notebook 10%
Homework and Participation 10%
